“the Leaves” - the Blue Oak weekly Newsletter

From our Principal_______________________________
> Laurie Kopping 879-7483 or Laurie@blueoakcharterschool.org

Dear Blue Oak Families,

   Beginning this year, the State is requiring that annual accountability testing be implemented on computers. California is field testing this year and no student scores will be provided to our school or to parents as a result. Going forward, our annual performance on these tests will play a critical role in the renewal of our charter and the long-term sustainability of our school.

  Blue Oak has purchased a set of notebook style computers for the purpose of testing. Students in grades 3-8 will be tested annually and will begin using these computers one period per week to become comfortable with the technology and format of the Common Core Standards.

  The inclusion of computers in classroom instruction one period a week in grades 3-8 does not in any way diminish our school’s value that limiting media and screen time is healthy for children and a highly encouraged practice in our community. As a Waldorf inspired public school, we are creatively adapting to the demands of our environment in providing the best possible education for children. Please contact me should you have any concerns or questions.

PARTICIPATION *_______________________________
> Community Coordinator, Summer O’Neill 717-0138 or summer@blueoakcharterschool.org

* Thank you!
A big thank you to all the volunteers who came out Saturday to help improve our school, it was a fun day and we got our to do list done!  Every little bit makes a difference towards making this place better and better every day.  Thank you for your time and contribution to our community!
If you missed this last one, not to worry, there will be others!  In fact, our Garden Committee Chairperson still needs your help.  Out back there is still a pile of green waste, you’ll see a trailer right next to it.  Spend a few minutes and take from the pile on the ground and add to the pile on the trailer.  That’s it.  Once that’s done, Mr. G can create another volleyball court for the kids.  Go ahead and help yourself or feel free to contact the Garden Chair, Jackie @ 321-0717 or jjehammer@sbcglobal.net.
Always growing; always learning; always improving.

* Facilities Map Creation for 2014-15 school year – Wednesday 2/5/14 @ 3:15pm

* Festivals Committee Meeting – Monday 2/10/14 1:15-2:30pm

We are looking for more committee members.  If you are interested in taking on a leadership role in our annual events, the Harvest Festival & the May Faire, then the Festivals Committee is for you.  We understand that meetings are not always convenient, so if you would like to be involved but are not able to be at regular meetings, just let us know and we’ll find a way to work it out.
