“the Leaves” - the Blue Oak weekly Newsletter
From our Principal_______________________________

Dear Blue Oak Families,
Beginning this year, the State is requiring that annual accountability testing be implemented on computers. California is field testing this year and no student scores will be provided to our school or to parents as a result. Going forward, our annual performance on these tests will play a critical role in the renewal of our charter and the long-term sustainability of our school.
Blue Oak has purchased a set of notebook style computers for the purpose of testing. Students in grades 3-8 will be tested annually and will begin using these computers one period per week to become comfortable with the technology and format of the Common Core Standards.
The inclusion of computers in classroom instruction one period a week in grades 3-8 does not in any way diminish our school’s value that limiting media and screen time is healthy for children and a highly encouraged practice in our community. As a Waldorf inspired public school, we are creatively adapting to the demands of our environment in providing the best possible education for children. Please contact me should you have any concerns or questions.

- Do you have a child who will be enrolling as a NEW Kindergarten Student next year?
You need to submit an Admission Interest Form for any incoming siblings ASAP.
This is the time of year for current families to document their interest in having their little ones start Kindergarten with us next year (2014-15). All incoming kindergartners with a sibling already attending Blue Oak always receive priority enrollment, but in order for us to identify those new students we need you to complete the form and turn it into the front office before we open up enrollment to the public at large. The public lottery will be held 2/13/14. To receive priority enrollment for your child you must submit the Admission Interest Form to the front office no later than 3pm, February 12, 2014.

* Thank you!
A big thank you to all the volunteers who came out Saturday to help improve our school, it was a fun day and we got our to do list done! Every little bit makes a difference towards making this place better and better every day. Thank you for your time and contribution to our community!
If you missed this last one, not to worry, there will be others! In fact, our Garden Committee Chairperson still needs your help. Out back there is still a pile of green waste, you’ll see a trailer right next to it. Spend a few minutes and take from the pile on the ground and add to the pile on the trailer. That’s it. Once that’s done, Mr. G can create another volleyball court for the kids. Go ahead and help yourself or feel free to contact the Garden Chair, Jackie @ 321-0717 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Always growing; always learning; always improving.
