the Leaves - 1.6.2014
Welcome back from the Winter Break!
We are glad to have your child back with us and looking forward to all that we will accomplish together in the next several months. This is a time to focus energies and lean into creating rhythms at home that sustain your family and make it possible for your child to benefit from school.
Your child's teacher will be hosting a parent meeting in the next two weeks. This is the second of three class meetings for the year. Attendance at parent meetings is an important way to be involved in your child's education and support your child's teacher. Please make every effort to attend and join us in the work we are doing at Blue Oak.

January is Open Enrollment month for the 2014-15 school year. There will be a School Tour every Wednesday for the next 6 weeks and two “Mornings in the Kindergarten” in January. If you have friends who are curious about our school, this is a great month for them to come learn more.
This month is also the time for current families to fill out paperwork for new Kindergartners and for Kindergartners who will be returning for a 2nd year. Remember all siblings of currently enrolled students receive priority enrollment, but you still need to fill out the paperwork to enroll them.
The public lottery will be on Thursday, February 13, 2014. Applications can be turned in to the front office up until 3pm February 12, 2014. Families will be notified of lottery results and placement information by the end of March 2014. If you have any questions concerning the lottery or enrollment please contact our Enrollment Clerk directly.

- Trimester One Report -
We are thrilled to report that ~ 3,800 Participation hours have already been recorded!
We currently have ~ 400 students at Blue Oak, which translates to about 280 families. We ask for 50 Participation Hours per family group so our goal for one school year would be ~14,000 hours. At 3,800 hours we are already 27% of the way there! We think this is amazing and we are very grateful to all of you for actively participating in our community. Thank you for tracking your hours in the new binders, we couldn’t make it work without your support! We have several families whom have already far surpassed their 50 hours. When asked for their permission to publicly thank them, almost every single one of them expressed their gratitude and humbly requested that they be kept anonymous. I think this speaks to the many generous hearts we have here in our community. We are honored and grateful!
* Did you know that those binders were a parent’s idea? That clever ladies name is Jessica McDougal and because of her helpful and practical solution we have been able directly address some of the communities needs around participation hours.
- Upcoming Participation Opportunities -
> Garden & Playground Committee, Jackie Hammer 321-0717 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Committee meeting this Thursday afternoon, 1/9/14 starting at 12:45 out on the playground.

> Finance Committee, Nathan Rose 879-7483 or Nathan@blueoakcharterschool.org
The Charter Council Finance Committee is looking to add some additional parent voices. If your child participates in the Free and Reduced Lunch Program, we would value your input. We need 1 or 2 more parents who represent our community. This is a monthly meeting with a little prep work prior to each meeting. We will propose the final budget draft and Funding Plan to the Charter Council in June. All questions can go directly to Nathan Rose.
> Facilities Committee, Nathan Rose 879-7483 or Nathan@blueoakcharterschool.org
The Blue Oak Charter Council is forming a facilities committee. The mission of this new committee is to create a comprehensive development plan for our school facilities. They aim to assess the current and future needs of our community and determine whether our current site can or cannot be developed to meet those needs. If you have experience in engineering, contracting, finance, design, real estate, and/or any other related fields, and are well versed in our Waldorf approach to education, please consider contributing your time to this committee. A highly inclusive and interactive process is anticipated which will include input from all interested parties.
