Welcome to the New Year! We had a small fire involving a cooking accident with a hotplate in teacher Cheryl’s Kindergarten classroom at 8:30 Monday morning. Teachers and students did a magnificent job exiting the building safely and then waiting patiently for the signal to reenter the building. I put out the fire with a fire extinguisher and damage in the classroom was minimal. Marie Fickert at the Chico Fire Department was very impressed with how we handled the situation, referring to our response as “exemplary.” She will be returning later in the month to address students about fire safety at our monthly assembly and we will be looking closely at how to prevent similar accidents in the future.
On January 23 at 6pm Chico Unified School District will be voting to renew our charter petition in the City Council Chambers. Please plan to attend this important meeting.
We are now enrolling for the fall. If you have a sibling of a current student that you intend to enroll, be sure to complete the paper work this week as we will be conducting a lottery early next month for any classes that are currently full.
If you are interested in joining a car pool, please contact Beth at 879-7483 as she keeps a binder in the front office and can connect you with others who have a similar interest. Currently, we have families wanting to car pool from Chico, Oroville, Paradise, Forest Ranch, Orland, and Cohasset.
Reminder: do not prop open external doors to our building that are normally locked. These doors are locked as an added student safety measure and we need your help to maintain a secure campus. If you see a door propped open, please close it.
