The Leaves 9-17-12

We are so proud of the work Blue Oak parents and staff did last weekend in providing games and enrollment information all day Saturday and Sunday at the Chico World Music Festival. Our school was presented in a positive and professional light. Thank you to everyone who took time out of their busy weekend to help.

Volunteering parents Rami White, Caryl and Matt Brown, Beth and John Howard, Monica and Eric Berg, Bernadette Brockman, and  Jewlya Herndon made a huge contribution to our school in their support of this event. Staff members on this team included Daniel Hendriks, Susan Hirsch, Jen Vaught, and Amy Jurkiewicz. Everyone pulled together and the results were impressive.

We are also proud of our strings and recorder students who provided a lively musical performance at the Festival. Thank you to teachers Shelley Fairchild and Max Stout for your joyful dedication to our children.

Tuesday Evening Rhythm:

If you were with us last year, you are already familiar with our Tuesday rhythm. We endeavor to hold our evening meetings at 6pm on Tuesday nights in order to encourage rhythm and consistency in our busy lives. As our mentor told us last year, “Rhythm replaces strength.”

Here is our schedule for the year:

1st Tuesday Charter Council

2nd Tuesday Parent Education

3rd Tuesday Community/class meetings

4th Tuesday Parent Council

Child care is provided on these evenings and donations are gratefully accepted. You must register for childcare by Monday at 4pm. You can call Beth at 879-7483 to register or drop by her office and add your name to the list. Child care is located in our kindercare classroom.

The Annie B’s fundraising drive ends September 30th. Any contribution you make to the school by the 30th will receive a matching contribution of up to 10% from the Annie B foundation. This is an excellent time to make your materials donation if you have not already done so.

To help improve attendance we are offering to any class that achieves 100% attendance in any month a Jamba Juice Party. If there are multiple classes that get 100% then all the classes will have a Party. If no class meets the 100% mark, then the class with the highest percentage for the month will have a Jamba Juice Party.

We are also recognizing individual students at each Trimester who achieve 100% attendance. Each student will be recognized with a Certificate of Achievement and a prize to be determined. That means a student with Perfect attendance for the year could get a monthly party and 3 prizes in the year. Keep up the great attendance!

School Pictures:

School pictures will be taken this week.

Tuesday 9/18 Grades K-4

Wednesday 9/19 Grades 5-8

Order forms went out in student folders last week.

There will be a make up day on October 23rd

All students should have prints back by the holidays.

Due to the organizational skills of our wonderful photographer Mark Thau and our school pictures coordinator, Tiffany Wilhelm, we do not feel the need for a parent volunteer to assist in each classroom as we have done in the past.  HOWEVER, if you are interested in helping, please talk with your classroom teacher.  Perhaps he/she would appreciate the extra help, particularly in the younger grades.

This is the third year that Mark Thau Photography has done school pictures for Blue Oak. He is great with the kids, the photos have turned out beautiful and natural, and he donates a percentage back to our school as a fundraiser!

If you do not have an order form or have any questions, please see Beth at the front desk.
