Urgent: The Chico Unified School Board will be hearing our petition for charter renewal this Wednesday December 5th at 6pm. We need 100-200 people to be at this meeting showing support for Blue Oak, although they will hear only a few testimonies. Please make every effort to attend. The meeting will be held at the City Council Chambers on East Fourth and Main Street in Chico. This would not be a good event for small children to attend.
Last week we held our monthly school assembly which featured whole class performances by the 5th grade. It was wonderful to see the children’s beautiful work! At this assembly we also recognized many students who had achievedperfect attendance for the first trimester, including timely arrival to school. Students received a Jamba Juice gift certificate and recognition for their outstanding attendance. Our attendance has averaged 95% this school year, a full 2% higher than last year. Way to go Blue Oak parents!
For our parent enrichment event this month, teachers will be hosting a cozy holiday handwork evening. You will hear a bit about the value of handwork for your student and why it is an essential part of a Waldorf curriculum. Three activities will be offered and you may complete a project that can be given as a gift. Light refreshments will be served. This is a great time to get to know other parents as well.
The vision team met over the weekend to review and refine the strategic three year plan that was developed on October 5th. We now have working teams focused on three areas: 1) Instruction, 2) Relationship Building, and 3) Site Development. Thank you to the 13 parents, faculty, and community member who gave their Saturday morning to this worthy cause. Teams meet biweekly. If you are interested in learning more about the work of the vision team or would like to get involved, please contact Laurie@blueoakcharterschool.org.
You can always find a detailed schedule of our school events on the website calendar, the monthly events board in the front office and on the Blue Oak School Facebook page.

The Parent Council met last week for the regular monthly meeting. This meeting was focused on discussing the parent leadership roles for the entire Parent Guild organization. The Council voted that the Parent Guild would be organized by having 2 lead roles per. grade, consisting of 1 P.C. Representative for each grade and 1 Room Parent for each classroom. Calls will be going out soon to all those who graciously volunteered for any of the roles previously posted and we hope to clarify these roles as the year continues.
The Council will not be meeting in December and will meet again on the 4th Tuesday of January at 6 pm (1/22/2013). *Parent Council Meetings are a place for community conversation. If you would like to discuss something you are welcome to request that the subject be placed on our agenda. Contact the PC Chair @ firstname.lastname@example.org
