The Leaves 10-8-12
Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 07:59PM As you may remember, Blue Oak reserves the second Tuesday of every month for Parent Enrichment. Please join us tomorrow evening, Tuesday October 9th from 6-7:30 for an introduction to the Nurtured Heart Approach® with Erica Charlesworth, Advanced Trainer in “NHA” and former Blue Oak parent. The Nurtured Heart Approach® is a powerful set of strategies originally developed for working with the most difficult child. This method has helped thousands of families, educators, and child advocates transform children from using their intensity in primarily negative ways to using their intensity in beautifully creative and constructive ways. Parents and teachers quickly succeed in becoming skillful and effective in helping children achieve wonderful new levels of competency in an enduring way. For more information, check out www.childrenssuccessfoundation.org.
The Blue Oak School Foundation sprang to life last Monday when nine members of our community took on leadership positions. The BOSF is a foundation set up to support Blue Oak School through fundraising and gifting efforts. As a foundation it is not an entity of Blue Oak School. The Board is comprised of voting and nonvoting members. Thank you to Blue Oak parents Mike Antogiovanni, Holly Pladson, David Orneallas, and David Beerman for volunteering your time and imagination to this worthy cause. Thank you also to community members Claire Hutkins-Seda and Barbara Ott for your support.
The BOSF meets on the first Monday of each month at 7pm. Everyone is welcome. Please contact chair person Claire Hutkins-Seda at cmh.seda@yahoo.com if you have any questions.
I am happy to report that our Vision and Planning day last Saturday was very, very successful. Twenty five of us spent over 6 hours in the great room laboring over the needs and opportunities at Blue Oak. We ended up with four working committees, each with a unique focus and timeline for the year. It was an amazing and productive process. As an administrator I am keenly aware of the challenges we face as a Waldorf-inspired charter school and I know that these challenges can only be met by the intelligent joining together of many ideas and energies. Thank you to everyone who participated. You have made a significant contribution to the lives of many children.
Did you know that our math intervention teacher, Susan Hirsch, is available for help with math homework afterschool Monday-Thursday? Ms. Hirsch is a graduate of five universities, including CSU Chico and Stanford and she loves helping students understand math. Please speak to Beth in the office if you have any questions or email Susan directly at susanhirsch@blueoakcharterschool.org.
Please note that Spanish Club will be meeting at 1:30 on Thursdays instead of 1:00.
And, you can now find us on Facebook.
